My Year 2008

March - Daffodils again early but at least in time for Mother's Day so selling well. Just finishing off the last of the leeks before starting to prepare for another year. Seeds have been ordered and delivered and I will soon be starting to plant.

August - This year has not been good so far – the asparagus was not as good a crop as previous years, soft fruit has been very poor, apples and pears disastrous. Carrots, courgettes and French dwarf beans could hopefully still save the day.

November – Carrots, courgettes, dwarf beans, and beetroot have saved the day with reasonable cropping and although sales have not been as good as previous years sufficient to cover some costs. Some of the reason for poor sales has been the number of people now growing their own, which cannot be a bad thing. It’s now a case of tiding up ready for the winter ploughing apart from some leeks. The hedgerow crops have been equally as miserable with very little in the way of sloes or damsons.

Looking forward to spring
